Bon Bini!
As of 1634
Curaçao
is part of The Kingdom of the Netherlands and has recently been placed on
the World Heritage List of UNESCO. The population of the island is a melting
pot of many cultures and nationalities. The people are friendly and
hospitable and English as well as Spanish and Dutch are spoken beside the
native language Papiamentu.
Willemstad, the capital, is divided in two parts by the St. Anna Bay: Punda
and Otrobanda. These are connected by an unique ponton bridge and many of
the historical buildings show the architectural style of the Dutch. There
are many interesting museums such as the Kura Hulanda Museum with african
art and the history of the slave trade, the Maritime Museum and Postal
Museum to name a few. Shopping in the streets of Willemstad is an adventure,
but there are also shopping malls in the suburbs where shopping is
worthwhile
The sun (almost) always shines on tropical
Curaçao
with no less than 45 beaches - large and small Ð and a beautiful underwater
world, a paradise for beach-, diving- and aquatic sports lovers. There are
many official PADI dive schools that organize diving and snorkeling courses
and trips. If you prefer to be active on land, there are many interesting
possibilities, such as hiking through the Christoffel National Park,
climbing the Christoffel Mountain, visiting the Hato Caves or making a jeep
safari
Curaçao
nightlife can be enjoyed indoor and outdoor. Dining possibilities are
numerous: you can eat in style or with your feet in the sand, overlooking
the sea or the thousands of lights of the city. The situation of
Curaçao
so close to South America and many Caribbean islands make the possibilities
for a side trip or honeymoon to these places very attractive |
