Bermuda

Pink sand exists in only a few places worldwide. Bermuda boasts some of the boldest displays of this revered coastal color, lapped by our dazzling turquoise waves. Absolute poetry.

Small though it is, we do divide our island into smaller sections of land, or parishes. These eight parishes reflected the principal shareholders in the original Somers Island Company. The ninth parish, St. George's, takes its name from England's patron saint and Sir George Somers, the admiral of the Sea Venture, which wrecked off Bermuda in 1609.

Many people mistakenly believe our island is part of the Caribbean. In fact, we rest hundreds of miles north of the Bahamas in an astoundingly beautiful stretch of the Atlantic.

Wedding Dreams Come True

When it comes to photo ops (and in some cases, outdoor ceremonies), there's Bermuda's Botanical Gardens, the Cliffs at Astwood Cove, Horseshoe Bay or the base of Gibb Hill Lighthouse.
The 30-kilometre Railway Trail provides stunning backdrops of harbors and bay views as well as colourful cottages and lush palmetto forest. Then there are Bermuda's famous moongates. Found at most hotels and parks, these coral and stone structures promise good luck and fortune to couples who walk through their arches.
Bermuda boast more churches per square mile than any other country. The clergy of many are happy to perform outdoor ceremonies (although Catholic ceremonies must take place indoors)

TIP Bermuda takes the cake. Its customary in Bermuda for both the bride and groom have their own wedding cake. The groom's cake is typically a plain pound cake, covered in gold leaf, symbolizing wealth. The Brides cake is a tiered fruitcake, iced with marzipan and wrapped in silver leaf. The bride's cake may be topped with a small cedar tree to be planted by the couple, representing fertility.
